Soggy Old Chepstow...

I know I’ve been a bit slow with this, and I’m sorry, but better late than never…..

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Another year over, a new one just begun as dear old John never tires of telling us.

I hope everybody had a wonderful Christmas and is now embarking on a happy and prosperous New Year.

My Christmas was very pleasant – too much to eat, too much to drink, too much lazing around! Much the same as every Christmas - I wouldn't have it any other way. Of course, my Christmas Cheer  would have been immeasurab…

Xmas Tipping Comp Day 2

After the first leg of the competition we have a tightly bunched group at the head of things with another large group sat in behind. With literally everything to play for we move into Day 2.

A quick note about the abandonment of Leg 3 at the Welsh national tomorrow. The meeting has been rescheduled for the 5th January and I think we will just wait until then to complete the competition - I know quite a few entrants have done a lot of work on the race and it would be a shame to let that go to wast…

So here it is....

With the weekend upon us and Christmas breathing down its neck, I thought now would be an opportune moment to thank everybody for indulging me and my little blog over the last 12 months. I’ve enjoyed writing it immensely and if you’ve enjoyed reading it even a quarter as much, we’ve done OK.

A BIG,  BIG THANK YOU TO ALL!!

I have some big plans for the New Year involving the introduction of new contributors/features and a rapid expansion of the number of system tests/reviews taking place on the sit…

Xmas Tipping Competition....

I must be getting old.

Gone for me are the days when the approach to Christmas was a time of glee and excitement. Only one week to go and I can barely raise myself from the chair to fill my glass. God forbid that I shall have to leave the house and join the scrabbling, elbowing throng in the hunt for presents.

I’m definitely getting old!

In my 70’s childhood the thought of years beginning with the number 2000 was fantastical – like something out of science fiction. And yet, here we are with 13 of …

What was I thinking....

Sometimes I need a hefty slap to the side of my head or a good firm kick in the seat of my pants - probably either will do - just to get me focussed on the things I should be focussing on rather than on the enormous workload I sometimes create for myself.

I received one such slap last week.

I've been exceptionally busy over the last month running my tipping services, researching emerging trends in a variety of betting markets and generally running myself ragged with not enough focus.

Imagine my hor…

Is it Just Luck?

As racing and betting enthusiasts we are regularly bombarded with pitches for the latest wonder system/tipster/method. Among those pitches will be a mixture of good and bad - some that are absolute 'must haves'.... and some that are outright scams.

The only real way we can assess whether something is any good, is by a detailed analysis of past results (assuming of course that the past results claimed can be verified - we should never consider buying anything that doesn't have a checkable, verifi…

The King of Cheltenham...

I know that the set up and general attitude at the Henderson yard is not everybody’s cup of tea and, judging from reports I’ve heard, I’m not sure I’d fancy being one of the smaller owners at the yard.

However, that being said, I am a big fan of the yard in general and there are many, many profitable angles to be found in the Seven Barrows runners.

Last year I found a very decent angle involving  Henderson hurdlers in December (You can read that article here) – that angle produced a very nice …

Nice November Numbers

As we enter the jumps season proper, I find my thoughts turning to those trainers that always seem to have their string ready for a strong early season campaign.

One such trainer is Emma Lavelle who consistently has an excellent time of things in November. The table below shows the performance of all Emma's runners in November for the last 4 seasons:

I like the look of those figures!

An SP profit of nearly 100 points spread across more than 100 runners is just the kind of thing I'm looking for. An…

When nothing seems to go your way...and how to cope with it

Losing runs are a fact of betting life that you will have to come to terms with if you ever hope to turn a profit.

We've all been there - you've just placed your 15th consecutive losing bet, doubts are creeping in, you have a barely suppressed sense of panic and the devil on your shoulder is telling you to go in heavy on a short priced "certainty" to get yourself back out of trouble.

You will go mad or, even worse, go broke unless you develop some strategies for coping with those emotions.

When I f…
