Horse Racing

Cheltenham Gossip....

The Festival is almost upon us and the rumours are flying thick and fast! Starting today, I will be relaying any  gossip I hear about the chances of the main players:

There have been some raised eyebrows in the last couple of days over the perceived drift in price of Long Run for the Gold Cup (6/4 out to 2/1 on Betfair). Seven barrows have denied that there is a problem with the horse and my contact at the stable has told me there is nothing amiss. If the drift continues, I may be tempted into b…

The Irish are Coming...

It’s been a long, long time since I managed to get anything up on this blog and for that, you have my sincerest apologies.

I know it’s no excuse but I’ve been ravaged over the last couple of weeks with a level of back pain I’ve never experienced before – the kind of pain, discomfort and lack of mobility that I wouldn’t wish upon a mortal enemy. It’s been just about all I could manage to carry out my form study and keep my premium services running and profitable.

I’ve had bad backs before – with my…

Betfair Hurdle

Here we are again, the weather playing havoc with our beloved racing.

I had intended to do an in depth look at the Betfair Hurdle today but it's looking increasingly likely that Newbury won't survive the weather.

That being the case I'll just give my thoughts on where the value lies and keep my fingers firmly crossed that we get to enjoy what looks like a fantastic meeting on Saturday.

Zarkandar - the likely winner and worthy favourite. Yet I'm slightly put off by Pumpkins repeated assertions that …

A New Contributor Approaches...

The "Number Cruncher"  has long been a trusted betting partner of mine and one I have been trying to get involved in this blog almost since the very beginning. Longer term readers will have heard me speak of him before in relation to his unsurpassed portfolio management skills. You can read my previous post about him here.

I've increased the pressure on him to come on board over recent weeks - and my persistence has finally paid off. After protracted negotiations, he's agreed to give us the benef…

Another Year over...

Happy New Year to all!

Christmas has come and gone as is tends to do and now a new year is before us full of possibilities and opportunities. It's an exciting time of year - anything is possible.

Before we move into the New Year proper, I need to wrap up a few bits of business from the last week of December 2011.

The two competitions we have been running, reached their conclusion.

The Christmas Tipping Competition

We have joint winners of the tipping competition.

MikeA and BigAl both finished on 9 poi…

Boxing Day Celebrations - Master Minded by Pumpkin?

Hello to all! Today we have our King George preview, written by John Mac:

Boxing Day for us racing folk is the highlight of the Christmas break. The presentshave been opened and the dinner has been well and truly digested and now all that remains is the real reason we all love this holiday period, THE KING GEORGE.

So many memories of colossal equine performances - Wayward Lad, Desert Orchid and Kauto Star to name but three Christmas heroes from days gone by.

What does this year have in store for u…

A Gruelling Slog at Chepstow...

Christmas is almost here and, though I love the festive season, I'm not a big fan of the enforced hiatus in racing. Three whole days without a single UK race can seem a lifetime when closeted with our nearest and dearest.

I suppose those jockeys, trainers and stable staff have to have the odd day off from providing us with punting fodder.

A couple of bits of business to deal with this morning.

Christmas Tipping Competition

Day 2 of the comp was completed on Saturday with a tricky Tommy Whittle Handi…

Posting Smorgasbord

Today’s post is a bit of a hotch potch of info rather than a single themed opus and there is a lot to cover so I will crack straight on with it.

The MYBP Christmas Tipping Competition went to post with 53 runners and the first race was at Cheltenham last  Saturday.

10 of the 53 tipsters managed to find Quantitativeeasing as the winner (no mean feat in a 16 runner handicap)  and they sit proudly atop the table with 6 points apiece. Second race is on Saturday 17th December and is the Tommy Whittle c…
