Kempton Review and Cheltenham Pointers

The King George

Well, I certainly didn't expect that. Sometimes these horses can make monkeys of us all!

I certainly didn't expect to see Kauto Star trailing home in third on Saturday. And  without a doubt, I didn't expect Long Run to be the one to lower his colours. And yet Long Run won convincingly and I wouldn't want to take anything away from him. He would likely have won even if Kauto hadn't tried  to take the second last out by it's roots.

To say I was perplexed by the result would be an unde…

King George VI - In January?

Welcome one and all!

It does seem strange to be looking forward to the King George VI in mid January - but I guess it's just been that kind of winter. The way things are going we'll be enjoying the Cheltenham Festival, on very firm ground, in the lead up to the Guineas weekend and the National will be going head to head with the Derby!

My thoughts on the King George.....

Kauto Star is much, much better than the rest of these and should win comfortably even at the ripe old age of 11. If he jumps rou…

Welsh National Strategy in Disarray

I had hoped today to give you my detailed analysis and reasons for backing Summery Justice for the Welsh National at Chepstow tomorrow. I had a very handsome antepost ticket at 25/1 on this horse and now my entire strategy has been thrown into disarray  by his withdrawal due to injury this morning!

I personally felt this one should be no bigger than 8/1 and that he represented a healthy dose of value at the 20/1 available just yesterday.

So, I won't bother with my carefully reasoned analysis. I wi…

A Kick in the Stomach and The Each Way Steal Part 2

Welcome dear readers

A very happy New Year to you all and I hope you had a relaxing, refreshing Christmas. Mine was pleasant if a little tainted by the residual shock caused by a betting 'kick in the stomach' I received on the Saturday before. More of that later - suffice to say one of the most careless, complacent pieces of jockeyship I have seen in a long time cost me several thousand pounds in winnings and my peace of mind for a week or two.

Sincere apologies again for the unacceptable delay be…

The Each Way Steal and Other Matters

Hello dear readers,

Firstly, let me offer my sincere apologies for neglecting you this week. I have been literally snowed under with my betting activites and simply haven't managed to carve out the time to lavish you with the attention you deserve in the form of an earlier post. I intend to put that right today with a really useful multi part post that I hope you will all enjoy (and find instructive with any luck). First up on that front I thought i'd give a mention for an old but good technique …

Finally, Some Jumps Racing

Welcome again dear readers

At last we have some National Hunt racing to get our teeth into - thanks to the foresight of the ground staff at Cheltenham who have had the covers on the track since the start of this cold snap. I'm guessing it's quite an expensive thing to do but surely some of the other courses could have done the same and spared me the unpleasant experience of launching the Jump Jockey Profits service on 1 st December to have only one jumps meeting go ahead in the following 9 days!

I…

The Smart Money

Hello dear readers

What a week we've had. National Hunt racing has disappeared off the calendar altogether. The standard of the All Weather racing hasn't been great. What are we going to talk about? Well, let's go off on a bit of a tangent today.

Due to the lull, I thought  it might be a good opportunity to talk about some of my favourite gambling books and for you to tell me about some of yours. To be honest, I'll only talk about one of my favourites today and return to some of the others when we…

A Warm Welcome to All the New Readers

Hi all

This is the first proper post in a while and I’d like to wish a warm welcome  and give a big thank you to all the new readers who have come on board in the last couple of weeks.

It’s probably a good time to restate what this blog is all about and give new readers an idea of what to expect from it.

I will be posting up here at least twice a week (Tuesdays and Fridays are good days for me – so long as I can keep ‘on task’) giving my thoughts on everything betting and sports related. Sometimes …

Hey Everybody, It's Been a Long Time

Apologies to you all for the 6 month hiatus in the posts.

There have been several reasons for this but no real excuses.

I have spent the last 6 months or so with my nose buried in an extremely expensive private racing database, burning the midnight oil working on something very exciting which will finally be unveiled in the next week or so!

I can't really tell you much more than that at present. All will be revealed and I think you will all be very impressed by some great freebies I have developed.…

Crucible Analysis Final Part

Good Morning Dear Readers!

In today's post I complete my look at the runners and riders I feel have a chance in The World Snooker Championships. Over the last couple of days we have examined the chances of Ronnie O'Sullivan, John Higgins, Ding Junhui, Mark Selby, Neil Robertson and Mark J Williams. Today is the turn of Shaun Murphy, Mark Allen and Ali Carter. I had intended to look at Ryan Day as well but he somehow managed to lose his 1st round match to Mark Davis, who registered only his 2nd wi…
