Who's best at Aintree?

As promised last week, I've got another interesting (and hopefully profitable) stat for the Aintree Festival which commences on Thursday of this week.

Peter Bowen is something of an Aintree specialist and I would have been keen to flag him up as one to keep on the right side of last week,  were it not for the fact that he was on one of the coldest streak I've ever seen him go through.

Prior to Pension Plan putting his nose in front last Thursday, Mr Bowen had not had a single winner in 2013 from 59 runners and in actual fact that losing streak extends right back to end of November 2012 and extends to 85 runners.

However, putting that to one side for a moment, he is by far and away the most profitable trainer at Aintree (at any meeting) over the last 10 years, with 32 winners from 177 runners there and a level stakes profit of 146.58 points at SP!

When we focus on the Aintree Festival itself, his numbers are equally impressive returning a level stakes profit of 62 pts at SP from 54 runners. Most of that profit has come in recent years with the domination of the Topham by Always Waining but there have been plenty of other winners.

Now, clearly, the cold streak is a major concern but is it just possible that things are turning around in time for Mr Bowen's favourite meeting of the year?

It would seem so - 3 winners from the last 7 runners looks like quite a turnaround to me and it's often the way wit these cyclical things that after a drought there is a deluge!  Let's hope s0 - I shall be following Bowen's runners at the festival with great interest.
