King George VI - In January?
Welcome one and all!
It does seem strange to be looking forward to the King George VI in mid January - but I guess it's just been that kind of winter. The way things are going we'll be enjoying the Cheltenham Festival, on very firm ground, in the lead up to the Guineas weekend and the National will be going head to head with the Derby!
My thoughts on the King George.....
Kauto Star is much, much better than the rest of these and should win comfortably even at the ripe old age of 11. If he jumps round, he wins. The best price of 8/11 looks fair to me for a horse who has nothing to prove. Winner of the last 4 renewals of this race, he does not lose at Kempton (he rarely loses anywhere -17 wins from 25 runs over fences)
I'm aware that 8/11 might not be a very attractive price for some of you out there so I will also give you my each way selections for what they're worth.
Madison du Berlais - Really likes it here and the 33/1 still available just looks too big to me. The value call of the race - I grabbed a bit of the 40/1 available this morning. It would be no surprise to me to see this one go off somewhere around the 16-20/1 mark.
Riverside Theatre - Great course form and a facile victory last time out make this one I'd like to keep on the right side of. (Having said that I would be a little concerned by the huge price he is available at with Betfair compared to the fiddlers - maybe there is something I'm not yet aware of with this one)
Please remember these are quite tentative selections - it's a pretty tricky race when you look beyond Kauto Star.
I'd be really interested to hear your opinons on the race and it's likely winner. Leave a comment at the bottom. Whether you agree with me or not, all opinions are warmly welcomed.
Changing gear a little, I've been kicking myself most of the week for not posting my pick for the Masters Snooker. I didn't have any strong opinions but I did feel that Graeme Dott was far too big a price for the tournament at 33/1.
I don't bother posting and what happens?
He turns over John Higgins in the first round and all of a sudden he's a best price of 15/2 for the tournament.!Ah well, you live and learn - next time I'll make time and flag it up when I see a price that far out of line. My annoyance was soothed somewhat by the fact that Stephen McGuire, my other pick, crashed out in the first round to Marco Fu.
I'm going to wrap things up here for now but I will be posting again before the week is out with more thoughts on the coming weekend's racing.
Have a great one
Kieran
PS Why on earth is Evander Holyfield still fighting at the age of 48? Does anybody know? Sorry that's a bit off topic but I was just reading an article about his upcoming fight in March. Surely he can't be short of money after such an illustrious career?
